Eva Mulberry, Betty Hillard Obituary, Death – An 89-year-old woman and her 91-year-old relative were killed in a tragic accident in Kentucky on April 8, when a dump truck collided with their vehicle and crashed into a restaurant. According to the Boone County Sheriff’s Office, the two women were passengers in a Chevrolet Equinox, which was stopped at an intersection in Walton. The driver of the SUV, a 66-year-old woman, attempted to make a left turn but crossed into the path of an oncoming dump truck hauling gravel.
The 66-year-old driver of the dump truck tried to avoid the collision but was unsuccessful. His truck struck the SUV, causing it to leave the road, hit a guardrail, and overturn, eventually coming to rest on its roof. The two women in the SUV, 91-year-old Eva Mulberry from Williamstown and 89-year-old Betty Hillard from Lexington, died at the scene.
The dump truck, after hitting the SUV, also veered off the road, crashing into four parked vehicles before slamming into Boonedocks Pub and Grub. Fortunately, no one inside the restaurant was injured, though there were six people inside when the dump truck crashed through the front of the business. One employee, Amanda Dearing, described the incident, saying it sounded like a freight train as the truck crashed through the wall and sent glass and debris flying.
Both drivers were taken to a nearby hospital for treatment. The driver of the SUV was reported to have critical, life-threatening injuries, while the dump truck driver, also 66 years old, sustained only minor injuries. Authorities have stated that neither driver appeared to be impaired or speeding at the time of the crash. An investigation is ongoing, with limited visibility at the intersection being considered a potential factor in the accident.
The family-owned Boonedocks Pub and Grub expressed their condolences on Facebook, offering thoughts and prayers for the families of the two women who lost their lives, as well as for the drivers involved in the crash. The restaurant described the incident as horrific and tragic.
The sheriff confirmed that both drivers had cooperated fully with the investigation, and neither has been charged with any offenses. The intersection where the crash occurred is located about 65 miles north of Lexington in Walton, Kentucky.
