Prince William County, VA – A devastating crash on Interstate 95 in Prince William County has left a 57-year-old man dead and another person seriously injured. Virginia State Police (VSP) are investigating the tragic accident, which happened on Tuesday, February 4, in the southbound express lanes of I-95.
The crash occurred at approximately 2:39 p.m. when a 2020 Lexus RX was stopped on the right shoulder of the highway. Suddenly, a 2022 Ford F-250 veered off the road and struck the parked vehicle with great force. The impact caused the Lexus to smash into a guardrail before being pushed back into the express lanes, where it came to rest facing oncoming traffic.
The driver of the Lexus, Vernon S. Lee II, a Chester, Virginia resident, tragically lost his life at the scene. Emergency responders confirmed that he was wearing his seatbelt at the time of the crash. His passenger, 25-year-old Shannon S. Lee, also from Chester, suffered serious injuries and was rushed to a nearby hospital for treatment. She, too, had been wearing her seatbelt.
Meanwhile, the driver of the Ford F-250, identified as Jeremy S. Kubela, 43, of Fredericksburg, escaped unharmed. Virginia State Police have charged him with reckless driving, but the investigation is still ongoing. Authorities are working to determine why the Ford F-250 veered off the road and struck the Lexus.
This tragic accident serves as a grim reminder of how quickly lives can change on the highway. Vernon S. Lee’s sudden passing has left his family and friends in deep sorrow, while his community in Chester mourns the heartbreaking loss.
As police continue their investigation, they are urging all drivers to remain cautious and follow traffic laws to help prevent such devastating crashes. The loss of a loved one in an accident is always painful, and this incident highlights the importance of road safety for all travelers.
