
BIRMINGHAM, AL — A tragic shooting late Tuesday night claimed the life of 22-year-old Ty’Keem Dishad Moore in a west Birmingham neighborhood, where authorities report nearly 50 shots were fired.
The Birmingham Police Department responded to the 1800 block of Princeton Court S.W. Alley around 11:45 p.m. after receiving a report of a person shot. Upon arrival, officers discovered Moore’s body lying off to the side of an alley. He had succumbed to at least one gunshot wound.
Investigators believe the incident began earlier in the evening. At approximately 10:10 p.m., officers were dispatched to the same area following three separate ShotSpotter alerts, which indicated a total of 49 rounds had been fired. During their initial response, authorities found shell casings, gunfire damage to two vehicles, and a residence. No injuries were reported at that time.
More than an hour later, Moore’s body was discovered by a family member. Authorities suspect Moore may have attempted to flee the gunfire but collapsed in the alley, where he was later found.
This incident marks Birmingham’s 147th homicide of 2024, ending a two-week period without a fatal shooting in the city. Of these homicides, 11 have been ruled justifiable and are not classified as criminal. Jefferson County, including Birmingham, has recorded a total of 187 homicides this year.
