
MISHAWAKA, IN – A fatal shooting in Mishawaka on Wednesday night has left a 17-year-old dead, shocking the local community. Authorities have identified the victim as Takoda Gallegos, a resident of Vandalia, Michigan.
Mishawaka Police responded to reports of a baby being shot in the 200 block of North Indiana Avenue at approximately 8:45 p.m. Upon arrival, officers found the initial report to be inaccurate but discovered Gallegos inside the home with life-threatening gunshot injuries. Despite attempts to provide aid, he was pronounced dead at the scene.
A juvenile suspect was quickly identified in connection with the shooting. With assistance from the St. Joseph County Metro SWAT team, the suspect was apprehended and is currently detained at the St. Joseph County Juvenile Justice Center. Authorities have not released the suspect’s identity due to their age.
The Mishawaka Police Department has stated that there is no ongoing danger to the public, but the investigation remains active. Detectives are working to determine the events leading up to the shooting and any potential motives.
