NASHVILLE, TN – Authorities have identified 17-year-old Solomon Henderson as the suspect in a tragic shooting at Antioch High School on Wednesday morning. According to investigators, Henderson livestreamed himself displaying a firearm shortly before the incident, which took place in the school cafeteria around 10:30 a.m. Witness accounts and preliminary findings suggest that the shooting may have been premeditated.
The attack resulted in the death of one female student, while another female sustained a graze wound to her arm. A male student suffered a facial injury unrelated to gunfire. Henderson died at the scene from a self-inflicted gunshot wound.
Law enforcement officials are examining evidence, including names written on the suspect’s ammunition magazines and suspicious online activity linked to him in the days leading up to the attack. Authorities are working to determine Henderson’s motive and whether he planned additional threats.
Metro Nashville Police Department (MNPD) officers and emergency responders quickly secured the school, which was placed on lockdown during the incident. A reunification site was established at 3754 Murfreesboro Pike, where school buses transported students to meet their families.
“This remains an active crime scene,” Metro Nashville Public Schools said in a statement. “We will continue to work closely with the MNPD to provide timely updates to families and the community.”
The Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives (ATF) is assisting in the investigation, including tracing the firearm used in the shooting. Authorities urge anyone with information about the suspect’s actions or the incident to contact the MNPD as the inquiry continues.
This tragic event has shocked the Nashville community, prompting renewed discussions about school safety and mental health resources for students. Local officials are offering counseling services to those affected by the shooting as the investigation unfolds.
