San Antonio, TX – A four-vehicle collision on Northeast Loop 410 near Austin Highway resulted in the tragic death of a young woman Friday afternoon. The San Antonio Police Department (SAPD) confirmed the incident, which occurred around 3:30 p.m.
According to initial reports, the driver of a Jeep Grand Cherokee entered the main lanes of Northeast Loop 410 from the access road, reportedly traveling at highway speeds. However, witnesses at the scene told police that the Jeep driver was speeding and weaving recklessly through heavy traffic.
The crash unfolded when the Jeep failed to slow down for stopped traffic ahead, slamming into the rear of a Dodge pickup truck. The force of the impact caused the Jeep to spin out, striking two additional vehicles. The passenger side of the Jeep suffered significant damage, critically injuring a 20-year-old woman seated in that position.
Emergency responders arrived quickly and transported the injured woman to a nearby hospital. Despite efforts to save her, she succumbed to her injuries. On Saturday morning, the Bexar County Medical Examiner’s Office identified the victim as Shye Brown, a San Antonio resident.
Two other individuals involved in the collision sustained non-life-threatening injuries and were also taken to the hospital for treatment. The extent of their injuries has not been disclosed.
The SAPD stated that the 20-year-old Jeep driver may face charges related to the crash, though the investigation is still ongoing. Authorities are analyzing evidence and witness statements to determine whether reckless driving played a role in the fatal incident.
This tragedy has highlighted the importance of responsible driving, particularly in high-traffic areas where conditions can change rapidly. Police are urging drivers to remain vigilant and exercise caution to prevent similar accidents. As the investigation continues, the San Antonio community mourns the loss of Shye Brown, a life cut tragically short in a preventable incident.
