
Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department (CMPD) has arrested a suspect in connection with the fatal shooting of a woman in west Charlotte earlier this month.
Authorities confirmed that 53-year-old Stevie Bernard Walker was taken into custody on Sunday and has been charged with first-degree murder and possession of a firearm by a felon in connection with the death of 28-year-old Sumer Massey.
On March 1, 2025, at approximately 9:00 p.m., CMPD officers responded to reports of an assault with a deadly weapon on the 1200 block of Lucky Penny Street.
Upon arrival, officers discovered Sumer Massey suffering from a gunshot wound. Emergency medical personnel from MEDIC arrived on the scene but pronounced Massey deceased.
Following an investigation, authorities identified Stevie Bernard Walker as the suspect in the shooting.
He was later arrested and charged accordingly.
Court records indicate that Walker had a previous second-degree kidnapping conviction dating back to 2006.
Authorities have not released additional details about the motive or circumstances surrounding the shooting.
The case remains under investigation by CMPD.
