Law enforcement in Mississippi is conducting an intensive search for a masked and gloved suspect involved in a horrific triple homicide at Clark’s Exxon Oil #1 gas station in State Line. The brutal shooting unfolded early Wednesday morning, just as the store opened at 6 a.m., leaving a community in shock.
Family members identified two of the victims as store clerk Rhonda Denson and her boyfriend, Lester Campbell. A customer, whose identity has not yet been released, was also killed during the tragic event. The gas station is located near the Alabama state line in Washington County.
Authorities say the violence began when the suspect shot Campbell as he walked into the store. The suspect then targeted the customer inside, shooting him and stealing his wallet. Denson, who attempted to protect herself by locking herself in a back room, was forced to open the cash register and safe after the suspect broke down the door. After complying, she was dragged to the front of the store and shot in the face.
Following the murders, the suspect fled the scene in a stolen black Toyota Camry belonging to one of the victims. The car was later abandoned about four miles away on Knobtown Road in Greene County. The Washington County Sheriff’s Department has deployed tracking dogs to aid in the manhunt, which is currently focused on the Knobtown community.
Law enforcement is urging the public to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activity. The suspect remains at large, and investigators are piecing together evidence to identify and apprehend him. Officials have not yet disclosed whether surveillance footage or other forensic evidence might aid in the investigation.
The senseless killings have left the community grappling with grief and fear. Local leaders and residents have expressed outrage over the act of violence, calling for justice for the victims and their families.
As the search continues, authorities emphasize the importance of public cooperation. Anyone with information about the suspect’s whereabouts is encouraged to contact the Washington County Sheriff’s Department immediately. This devastating incident underscores the urgent need for heightened security measures and community awareness in preventing such tragedies in the future.
