
One Newark police officer killed, another ‘fighting for their life’ after shootout with 14-year-old
A 25-year-old Newark police officer lost his life in a deadly shooting Friday evening. Another officer was critically injured.
The shooting happened around 6:37 p.m. near Carteret Street and Broadway, according to the Essex County Prosecutor’s Office.
Sources say a 14-year-old suspect also died in the incident. The suspect fired about 29 shots before being stopped.
The injured officer is in critical condition and “fighting for their life,” according to the New Jersey State Policemen’s Benevolent Association.
Authorities have not released details about what led to the shooting.
