
A High school athletic trainer is dead and his teenage daughter is in critical condition following a horrific car crash in Montana over the weekend. David Butterfield, the athletic trainer at Parkland High School in El Paso, Texas, was killed after his Nissan Sentra vehicle was hit by a Hummer around 10:14 a.m. on Sunday, March 2, while driving in Laurel, Montana.
Butterfield and his daughter, Kristina, who had traveled to Montana to visit relatives, sustained critical injuries in the crash and were both transported to hospital. David succumbed to his injuries, while Kristina remains in critical condition.
According to the Montana Highway Patrol, the accident ooccured when the Butterfields were at a stop sign going west. They drove through the intersection and were hit by a Hummer which did not have a stop sign.
Kristina is a junior at Hanks High School and a critical member of the Varsity Girls basketball team who helped the team reach the 2025 UIL basketball playoffs. Krstina is ranked 4th in her class. The head coach of the Hanks High School Girls basketball team, Miguel Padilla, has set up a GoFundMe to help the Butterfields with medical and funeral expenses. The fundraiser has so far raised $27,249 out of its $35,000 goal.
