CAMARILLO, CA — Mike Morgan, a devoted public servant and former mayor of Camarillo, tragically passed away in a car accident, with his wife, Donna Morgan, suffering severe injuries. The news, shared Tuesday by current Mayor Tony Trembley via the city’s social media channels, has left the community mourning a leader whose service spanned nearly four decades.
Morgan’s political career began in 1980 when he was elected to the Camarillo City Council, where he served for 38 years, including six terms as mayor. Though he lost his bid for reelection in 2018, Morgan remained active in civic life, working with local nonprofits and continuing to support the city’s growth. His dedication to Camarillo was a hallmark of his life, reflected in his tireless efforts to make the city a thriving, welcoming community.
Bill Little, former councilman and city manager, highlighted Morgan’s critical role in shaping modern Camarillo. “The city we have today was largely built when Mike was on the City Council,” Little told the Camarillo Acorn. “Mike had a big hand in how the city was developed.” Morgan’s vision for Camarillo was deeply personal. “I live here too. My family lives here,” he once said. “Over the years, that’s why I ran, to see if I could help improve and make this the best place to live.”
Mayor Trembley praised Morgan’s leadership and expressed profound sympathy for his family. “Mike made a significant contribution to our city through his leadership,” Trembley said. “Our heartfelt condolences go out to Donna and the entire Morgan family. Please keep them in your thoughts and prayers during this difficult time.”
The accident has left Donna Morgan hospitalized with severe injuries, adding to the community’s grief. Residents, friends, and colleagues have rallied in support of the Morgan family, sharing memories of the former mayor’s enduring dedication to the city he loved.
Morgan’s death marks the end of an era for Camarillo, but his impact will be felt for generations. His leadership, vision, and devotion to public service have left an indelible mark, ensuring that his legacy as a champion for Camarillo endures.
