
MESQUITE, Texas – A pilot was killed Thursday morning after a Cessna CitationJet crashed into a wooded area near Mesquite, east of Dallas, shortly after takeoff, officials confirmed.
According to Mesquite police, the aircraft took off from Mesquite Metro Airport at approximately 7:40 a.m. before going down near the intersection of East Cartwright Road and Lawson Road, just a few blocks from the airport.
Emergency responders arrived at the crash site and confirmed that the pilot, the sole occupant of the plane, did not survive.
No other injuries were reported.
The Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) and National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB) have launched an investigation to determine the cause of the crash.
Officials stated that no residential structures or other buildings sustained damage as a result of the impact.
Further details, including the pilot’s identity, will be released pending notification of next of kin.
