
CHICAGO, IL – A tragic shooting inside a home in the Pullman neighborhood on Chicago’s Far South Side left one teenager dead and two others injured Sunday afternoon. Police responded to the incident, which occurred shortly after noon in the 13100 block of South Corliss Avenue at the Altgeld Gardens housing complex.
Officers arrived to find three teenage brothers suffering from multiple gunshot wounds inside the residence. Sixteen-year-old Mekhi Rodriguez was critically injured, sustaining nine gunshot wounds to his torso and back. Paramedics performed CPR at the scene before transporting him to the University of Chicago Medical Center, where he was pronounced dead.
A 17-year-old sibling, who was shot eight times, remains in critical condition after being rushed to Christ Medical Center. Meanwhile, the oldest brother, 18, suffered a gunshot wound to his arm and is listed in good condition at the University of Chicago Medical Center.
According to initial police investigations, an argument inside the home escalated into violence, culminating in multiple gunshots. Chicago Police Department officials confirmed a person of interest, possibly the victims’ father, is in custody. A firearm and several shell casings were recovered from the scene, but the specific circumstances surrounding the shooting are still under investigation.
