
A tragic accident in Los Feliz, Los Angeles, claimed the life of a 59-year-old man and left a 9-year-old boy seriously injured early Wednesday morning. The incident occurred around 1:38 a.m. when a sedan veered off Western Avenue, crashing into an apartment building at 1836 N. Western Ave., just south of Franklin Avenue.
The Los Angeles County Medical Examiner’s Office identified the victim as Mahammad Humbatov. Officers from the Hollywood Division of the Los Angeles Police Department and first responders from the Los Angeles Fire Department (LAFD) arrived at the scene to find two people trapped under the vehicle inside the apartment. Despite LAFD’s efforts to extricate the victims, Humbatov was pronounced dead at the scene.
The 9-year-old boy, who sustained serious injuries, was rushed to a nearby hospital for treatment. The driver of the sedan, a 34-year-old woman, also sustained minor injuries and was taken to the hospital. Her role in the crash is under investigation, with authorities yet to disclose additional details about what caused the vehicle to leave the roadway.
The collision caused extensive damage to the apartment building, forcing the evacuation of seven residents who were displaced by the incident. The Red Cross and local officials are assisting those affected, while structural assessments of the building are underway.
