Suspect identified in deadly Lancaster home shooting on Tuesday night
A 26-year-old Lancaster man has been charged after a Tuesday night shooting left two dead and another injured.
Police responded to a “behavioral health” call at 5:29 p.m. at 1244 N. Broad St., indicating a male subject, identified as Kyle Varney, 26, acting out of the ordinary and in need of evaluation, according to Lancaster police.
Upon arrival, an unidentified LPD officer encountered a woman running to his patrol car screaming for help. The officer then saw a male subject, identified as Varney, fire a gun toward another female at the scene. The officer then fired his gun and Varney’s weapon was discarded to the ground.
The body cam footage that was released, showed Varney surrendering shortly after and was taken into custody.
Upon evaluation, Varney sustained at least one gunshot wound.
The female was wounded and transported to OhioHealth Grant Medical Center in Columbus for critical injuries.
Officers searched the residence and found two deceased individuals with gunshot wounds.
Varney was charged Wednesday with two counts of murder and six counts of felonious assault, each charge with a gun specification. The felonious assault charges are second-degree felonies.
According to the initial 911 phone call, made by a woman identified as Varney’s grandmother, police were requested to come to the home due to Varney’s behavior.
