
MADISON, WI — The Dane County Medical Examiner’s Office has identified 22-year-old Kwantrell Vargas of Madison as the victim of a fatal shooting that occurred on December 5 in the 1500 block of Troy Drive. Vargas was pronounced dead at the scene, marking a tragic end to the incident.
The Madison Police Department has made three arrests in connection with the crime. Denarian M. Ward, 17, was taken into custody on Monday evening. He faces charges of felony murder (party to a crime) and robbery and is being held at the Dane County Jail. A 16-year-old boy, whose identity has been withheld due to his age, has been charged with felony murder (party to a crime), first-degree reckless homicide, and robbery. Additionally, Denivea L. Ward, 19, was arrested on charges of harboring or aiding a felon, as well as a probation hold.
Police have also confirmed that two teenage individuals who sustained injuries during the incident are now in custody. The roles of these individuals in the crime remain under investigation. Authorities have not yet disclosed details about the events leading up to the shooting or the motive behind it.
The case is being handled by the department’s Violent Crime Unit, which is actively investigating the incident.
