A deadly shooting early on November 4, 2024, has left one person dead and another seriously injured in Newberry County, South Carolina. The Newberry County Sheriff’s Office, South Carolina Law Enforcement Division (SLED), and the Newberry County Coroner’s Office are conducting a joint investigation into the homicide and attempted murder.
The incident occurred around 2 a.m. when Newberry County 911 received a call from a man claiming he had been shot during an attempted robbery on Green Meadows Drive, located just outside the City of Newberry. Deputies quickly responded to the scene and found the victim lying outside a home, suffering from a gunshot wound to his lower torso. The man was able to inform investigators that there might be another victim inside the house.
Upon further investigation, law enforcement discovered a second victim in the backyard of the property. Unfortunately, the second victim, later identified as 31-year-old Kier Leon Marsh of Broadway, North Carolina, was already deceased. Marsh had been living at the Green Meadows Drive address at the time of the shooting. Authorities have requested an autopsy to determine the exact cause of death.
The surviving victim, who was treated by Emergency Medical Services (EMS) at the scene, shared with investigators that several black males had entered the home, fired shots, and fled in a dark-colored sedan. The surviving victim was transported to a nearby trauma center, but his current condition remains undisclosed.
Sheriff Lee Foster emphasized that, based on current evidence, the incident appears to be isolated. However, authorities continue to investigate the circumstances surrounding the shooting. They are working to identify the suspects and determine the motive behind the attack.
