Bartow, FL – A domestic shooting in Bartow late Saturday night has left one man dead and a woman critically injured, prompting a manhunt for the suspect. The incident occurred on December 7, 2024, around 11:18 p.m., when first responders received a distressing 911 call reporting gunshot victims on Highland Boulevard. However, the caller was unable to provide the suspect’s location.
Authorities have identified the suspect as Joshua Voigt, who allegedly fatally shot his father and critically wounded his mother in what police are calling a domestic altercation. Both victims were rushed to Lakeland Regional Hospital for emergency treatment. Tragically, Voigt’s father succumbed to his injuries shortly after arrival.
Voigt has a documented history of violent behavior. On November 30, 2024, he was arrested for battery and assault but was released on bond. Additionally, in October 2023, he was charged with firing a weapon in a residential neighborhood, an offense for which he is still awaiting trial. Authorities believe this history underscores the severity of the current threat.
At approximately 11:32 p.m., law enforcement officers spotted Voigt’s vehicle, a silver or gray Toyota Corolla with black rims and tinted windows, heading northbound on Highway 17 near Lake Ship. Despite a rapid response from deputies, police, and K-9 units, the vehicle evaded capture. Later, at 12:24 a.m., it was reportedly seen near Orlando, leading to coordination with local law enforcement agencies in the area.
Authorities are urging the public to avoid approaching Voigt or his vehicle, as he is considered armed and dangerous. The suspect’s vehicle is described as a Toyota Corolla with distinguishing features, including black rims and tinted windows. Law enforcement has intensified efforts to locate Voigt and continues to monitor developments closely.
Residents are advised to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activity immediately. Anyone with information about Joshua Voigt’s whereabouts or the described vehicle is encouraged to contact 911 or the Polk County Sheriff’s Office. Community safety remains the top priority as the search continues. Updates will be shared as more information becomes available.
