Grayslake, IL — Joseph Roon, a 30-year-old resident of Lake Villa, has been identified as the victim in a fatal head-on crash that occurred Monday morning in Grayslake. The tragic accident took place around 8:30 a.m. near 115 S. Route 83, according to the Lake County Coroner’s Office.
Preliminary autopsy results revealed that Roon died from blunt-force injuries sustained in the collision. First responders arrived at the scene to find two of the three vehicles involved severely damaged, prompting the Major Crash Assistance Team (MCAT) of Lake County to join the investigation due to the severity of the incident.
Early findings indicate that Roon was driving a white 2017 Chevrolet Malibu southbound on Route 83. A blue 2020 Toyota Corolla was traveling in the same direction, while a black 2019 Lexus UX was heading northbound. Investigators believe Roon’s vehicle rear-ended the Corolla before veering into the northbound lane, where it collided head-on with the Lexus.
Following the crash, Roon was transported to Advocate Condell Medical Center in Libertyville. Despite the efforts of emergency medical staff, he was pronounced dead shortly after arriving at the hospital. No other injuries have been reported at this time.
Grayslake police, in collaboration with MCAT, are actively investigating the incident to determine the exact cause and contributing factors. Authorities have not yet disclosed whether speed, impairment, or other factors may have played a role in the crash.
This tragic incident has left the community mourning the loss of a young life. Police are urging anyone who may have witnessed the accident or has information that could assist the investigation to contact Grayslake Police or MCAT. Officials continue to stress the importance of safe driving and vigilance on the roads to prevent similar tragedies.
