
RUSSIAVILLE, IN – A 16-year-old boy, Joseph Ford, tragically lost his life after being found unresponsive inside an ice fishing shanty on a private pond in Russiaville, Indiana. The heartbreaking incident occurred Sunday morning, January 26, 2025.
Authorities were alerted around 9:34 a.m. when Ford’s mother called 911 to report her son unconscious. Emergency responders quickly arrived at the scene near the intersection of 300 S. and 500 W., finding the teenager inside the shanty. Despite their efforts to revive him, Ford was pronounced dead at a nearby hospital.
Multiple agencies, including the Howard County Sheriff’s Office, Russiaville Police Department, Russiaville Fire Department, and Community Howard Regional Health, collaborated in the emergency response. Unfortunately, the severity of Ford’s condition proved insurmountable.
The Howard County Sheriff’s Office and Coroner’s Office are jointly investigating the cause of Ford’s death. Authorities have not yet released additional details but are asking anyone with relevant information to contact the sheriff’s office at (765) 614-3449 or submit tips online.
