Tragedy struck in southwest Louisiana on January 4, 2025, as two fatal crashes occurred within an hour of each other, claiming the lives of two individuals. The accidents, investigated by Louisiana State Police Troop D, underscore the ongoing need for road safety.
The first incident happened around 5:00 p.m. on Louisiana Highway 109 near Bearhead Road in Singer. According to preliminary reports, 42-year-old Jeromy Francis Ambrose of Leesville was riding a 2019 Harley-Davidson motorcycle southbound when he failed to navigate a left-hand curve. The motorcycle veered off the road and struck a tree. Ambrose, wearing a non-approved DOT helmet, suffered fatal injuries and was pronounced dead at the scene. Investigators have not yet determined why he lost control, and toxicology samples have been taken for analysis.
Just under an hour later, a second fatal crash occurred on U.S. Highway 90 near Choupique Road in Sulphur. The crash involved a 1998 Ford F-150 driven by 41-year-old Coby Ray Robin of Vinton, who crossed the centerline and collided head-on with an eastbound 2023 Ford F-150. Robin, who was not wearing a seatbelt, died at the scene. An unrestrained passenger in his vehicle sustained minor injuries and was taken to a nearby hospital. Meanwhile, all four occupants of the eastbound truck, who were properly restrained, suffered only minor injuries.
Both crashes are under active investigation as authorities work to determine the contributing factors, including possible impairment or distraction. Toxicology samples from both incidents have been submitted for further analysis.
State Police have reiterated the importance of road safety, urging drivers to remain vigilant and avoid distractions, impairment, or fatigue while driving. They also stress that seatbelt use is mandatory under Louisiana law for all passengers, regardless of seating position. Proper safety measures, such as wearing approved helmets for motorcyclists, can significantly reduce the severity of injuries in accidents.
While not all crashes are survivable, adhering to these precautions can dramatically increase the chances of avoiding fatalities. These tragic losses serve as somber reminders of the responsibility every motorist carries to protect themselves and others on the road. Further updates will follow as investigations progress.
