
OUACHITA COUNTY, AR — A two-vehicle collision in rural Ouachita County on Tuesday morning resulted in the death of 69-year-old James D. Cannedy, a resident of Bearden, Arkansas. According to the Arkansas State Police, the crash occurred around 10:30 a.m. on US Highway 79, just north of Arkansas Highway 9, near Eagle Mills.
The incident involved a 2014 Chevrolet Silverado, driven by 78-year-old Jamie L. Williams, also from Bearden, and a 2018 Dodge Ram. Preliminary reports indicate that the Dodge Ram struck the Chevrolet from behind, causing the Silverado to veer off the left side of the roadway. The impact sent the Chevrolet into several trees, where it came to a stop.
James Cannedy, who was a passenger in the Chevrolet, was pronounced dead at the scene. Jamie Williams, the driver, sustained unspecified injuries and was transported to OCHSNER LSU Health Hospital in Shreveport, Louisiana, for treatment. Authorities have not yet released any information regarding the condition of the occupants of the Dodge Ram.
Senior Cpl. Billy Walker of the Arkansas State Police stated that the crash occurred under clear skies and dry road conditions. The investigation into the cause of the crash is ongoing.
