The Waukesha County Sheriff’s Office has identified Hussain Farhat, 39, as the tow truck driver tragically killed in a hit-and-run incident on Christmas Eve. Farhat, an employee of Chicago-based Yaffo Towing, was struck while assisting a disabled vehicle on I-94 East near Sawyer Road in Summit, Wisconsin.
The incident occurred shortly before 6:45 p.m. as Farhat worked on the highway shoulder. A blue minivan traveling eastbound hit him and fled the scene, exiting the highway at Highway C. Despite being rushed to a nearby hospital, Farhat succumbed to his injuries shortly after arrival, leaving his family and community mourning his untimely death.
On Christmas Day, the investigation progressed significantly following an anonymous tip that led law enforcement to the village of Wales. Authorities identified the suspect as a 39-year-old man who later turned himself in to the sheriff’s office. His vehicle was recovered from a residence in Wales.
The suspect is currently being held in the Waukesha County Jail and faces charges for a class D felony of hit-and-run causing death. If convicted, he could face serious legal consequences for his actions.
Lieutenant Nicholas Wenzel of the Waukesha County Sheriff’s Office extended condolences to Farhat’s family, emphasizing the community’s and law enforcement’s collective efforts in resolving the case. “Our heartfelt condolences are with the Farhat family,” Wenzel stated. “We thank the public for their assistance and support during this investigation.”
The Waukesha County Sheriff’s Office and Wisconsin State Patrol are continuing their investigation into the circumstances surrounding the crash. The tragedy serves as a grim reminder of the dangers tow truck operators face daily and highlights the importance of adhering to Move Over laws to protect roadside workers.
As Farhat’s loved ones grieve this devastating loss, the community’s swift response and cooperation with law enforcement have brought some measure of accountability. The investigation remains ongoing, with authorities committed to ensuring justice is served.
