
A devastating single-vehicle crash on Interstate 64 near the Military Highway exit ramp claimed the life of a 72-year-old man on the morning of February 16, 2025. The victim has been identified as Fidel Enerva Villaluna, who tragically succumbed to his injuries after his vehicle overturned and became partially submerged in water.
Virginia State Police were called to the scene at approximately 9:17 a.m. after receiving reports of the accident near mile marker 281. Upon arrival, troopers discovered a 2015 Honda CR-V overturned, with part of the vehicle submerged in water. Villaluna, the driver and sole occupant of the vehicle, was rescued from the wreck and rushed to Norfolk Sentara General Hospital. Despite the best efforts of medical personnel, he was pronounced dead after succumbing to his injuries.
A preliminary investigation revealed that Villaluna’s vehicle veered off the roadway before overturning. Authorities are looking into whether speed and alcohol may have played a role in the crash. However, the exact cause of the accident remains under investigation as state police work to piece together the events leading up to the tragedy.
