NASHVILLE, TN – A robbery at Green Hills Mall escalated into a fatal shooting and crash on Interstate 65 in Berry Hill on Tuesday afternoon, leaving one suspect dead and another in police custody. The violent chain of events caused major traffic disruptions and sparked an ongoing criminal investigation.
According to the Metro Nashville Police Department (MNPD), the incident began when a shopper carrying Louis Vuitton bags was targeted in the mall’s parking lot. 30-year-old Omari Moore allegedly approached the victim armed with a pistol featuring an extended magazine and forcibly took the bags. He then ran to a Tesla driven by 30-year-old Emmanuel M. Easley, and the pair sped off.
As the suspects attempted to flee, the shopper pursued them and threw what appeared to be the gun’s magazine at the vehicle. Investigators later found the magazine and two spent shell casings, suggesting that gunfire may have occurred. Shortly after leaving the mall, Easley lost control of the Tesla and crashed into a tree near the I-65 North entrance ramp from Interstate 440. Easley was fatally wounded, though authorities have not confirmed when or how he was shot.
Moore survived the crash and tried to flee, but officers apprehended him near a pistol missing its magazine. MNPD charged Moore with aggravated robbery and unlawful gun possession. Court records show Moore, a convicted felon, has prior burglary, theft, and evading arrest charges. Detectives are now investigating whether the victim or another individual fired shots during the robbery or getaway.
Authorities are urging the robbery victim to come forward, as their statement is crucial in piecing together the events that led to Easley’s death. The case has raised concerns about escalating violent crime in public spaces, especially in high-traffic shopping areas like Green Hills Mall. Investigators are also working to determine if additional suspects were involved.
The MNPD continues to gather witness statements and evidence to ensure justice is served. They are asking anyone with information about the robbery, shooting, or crash to contact the department. As the investigation unfolds, the case serves as a stark reminder of the dangers of armed robberies and high-speed pursuits in public spaces.
