CEDAR PARK, TX — The Cedar Park Police Department (CPPD) is investigating a tragic incident in which an 88-year-old pedestrian was struck and killed Monday evening. The fatal crash occurred around 6:20 p.m. in the 800 block of Royal Lane, near Lone Star Drive.
According to police, the incident involved a pickup truck traveling southbound on Royal Lane. The pedestrian, identified as Elisabeth Barker, was reportedly walking in a poorly lit area of the roadway and wearing dark clothing. These factors made it difficult for the driver to see her in time to prevent the collision.
The driver of the pickup truck stopped immediately and remained at the scene, fully cooperating with authorities. Investigators from the CPPD Highway Enforcement Unit believe low visibility played a significant role in the incident, though they have yet to confirm if other factors, such as speed or alcohol, were involved. No charges have been filed at this time.
The crash highlights ongoing safety concerns regarding unlit roadways and pedestrian visibility. Areas with minimal street lighting pose serious risks, particularly at night, for both pedestrians and drivers. Police are urging pedestrians to wear bright or reflective clothing when walking after dark and to use sidewalks or well-lit areas whenever possible.
The CPPD has asked for the public’s assistance in gathering additional information about the crash. Anyone with details is encouraged to contact the department’s Highway Enforcement Unit. Authorities hope further insights will help determine the full circumstances surrounding the tragedy.
As the community mourns the loss of Elisabeth Barker, the incident serves as a somber reminder of the importance of improving safety for pedestrians and ensuring drivers remain vigilant on dimly lit roads. The police investigation remains ongoing, and updates will be provided as new information becomes available.
