ASSAM, INDIA — Elaine Berry Thompson, a 61-year-old woman from Ball Ground, Georgia, tragically lost her life in a road accident in Assam’s Hojai district on Saturday, according to local authorities. Thompson, riding her motorcycle from Silchar to Dhemaji, was fatally struck by a speeding truck near the Lumding area.
The accident occurred around 12:45 p.m., according to Rupam Bordoloi, Additional Superintendent of Police for Hojai district. “When our police team arrived at the scene, they discovered that a U.S. national was involved in the accident,” Bordoloi stated. Despite being rushed to a nearby hospital, Thompson was pronounced dead upon arrival.
The Lumding area, situated between the flat Brahmaputra Valley and the rugged Karbi Anglong hills, sees heavy vehicular traffic due to its proximity to a major railway junction. Unfortunately, this also makes it a hotspot for road accidents involving large vehicles such as trucks.
