A Louisville woman is facing serious charges after police say she left her 12-year-old daughter home alone with no food while she drove drunk.
Natanya Garison was arrested early Saturday morning.
She faces multiple charges, including driving under the influence, abandoning a minor, and endangering a child’s welfare.
An arrest slip says police were dispatched to a gas station in the St. Denis neighborhood around 2:30 a.m.
Police say they walked over to a vehicle parked at a pump. This is where they found Garison slumped over and nonresponsive while the car was running.
The arrest slip says police were able to wake her up and tried to get her medical help. When she opened the door, police saw a Bud Light bottle empty in the driver’s side door.
Garison was unable to stand up on her own and was slurring her words, police said. They said the smell of alcohol was noticeable on Garrison’s breath as well.
She was checked out by EMS before police began questioning her about what was going on. During this time, her 12-year-old daughter called. Police said the girl had been left home alone and was crying and breathing frantically on the phone.
After taking Garrison to Metro Corrections, police learned her daughter had been left home alone for almost three hours. They said Garrison refused a breathalyzer test at the jail.
An officer then went to Garrison’s home to get the daughter. The officer said there wasn’t food inside the house except for canned cat food and there was another empty beer bottle on the counter.
The child told police that she had no other family in the state that she could call for help. Child Protective Services was contacted and a report was filed.
Garrison’s bond was set at $5,000. She was arraigned Monday morning.
