BATON ROUGE, LA — A devastating shooting on Wednesday afternoon, November 27, left a pregnant mother’s seven-year-old son dead and two other children seriously injured, shaking the Baton Rouge community to its core.
The attack unfolded around 2:00 p.m. in the 1000 block of Swan Avenue near Scenic Highway. Baton Rouge Police Department officers arrived to find a bullet-riddled Honda Accord crashed into a tree outside a barbershop. The pregnant driver was unharmed, but her three young sons were struck by gunfire in what authorities described as a brutal and senseless attack.
Witnesses recalled the chaos that ensued. John Willis III, owner of the barbershop where the car crashed, described the terrifying scene. “You could still hear the shots. Kids screaming, hollering. People running around with blood on them. It all happened so fast,” Willis said.
Investigators recovered about 60 shell casings at the scene, underscoring the attack’s violent nature. Tragically, seven-year-old Diellon Daniels succumbed to his injuries at the hospital. His two younger siblings sustained serious injuries, with one undergoing surgery. Authorities have not released their ages.
Baton Rouge Police Chief TJ Morse expressed outrage over the incident, calling it a deliberate act of violence. “I hope people are as mad as I am,” Morse said. “This car was hit about 20 or 30 times. It’s not worth it.”
Willis shared a chilling account of how close his family came to tragedy. Moments before the shooting, his daughter asked to play outside. “I told her no because they didn’t have any adult supervision. Good thing they didn’t go outside. That’s how close to home this hit,” he said.
Police have yet to identify any suspects or motives, and the investigation remains ongoing. The community is grieving the loss of Diellon Daniels and praying for the recovery of the two surviving children. Authorities are urging anyone with information to contact the Baton Rouge Police Department or submit anonymous tips through Crime Stoppers.
As the investigation continues, the community is united in grief and determination, demanding justice for the innocent lives shattered by this senseless violence.
