Tateona Williams has been living in a shelter after her nine-year-old son, Darnell, and two-year-old daughter, Amillah passed. They were living in a van at the time.
On Wednesday, the city of Detroit partnered with the Detroit Rescue Mission Ministries to offer Williams a chance to get back on her feet with a new home, which she can stay in for free for a year.
“I love the house. I think it’s wonderful. I like it and I think it’s wonderful,” Williams told the outlet. “It actually means a lot. It’s a lot I’m going through right now, so this makes me happy because I was sad today. I have been having a rough day all day today.” She said that she thinks about her kids every day.
When Detroit Rescue Mission Ministries president and CEO, Chad Audi learned about Williams’ situation, the organization and the city also decided to include furniture and food.
Williams expressed her gratitude to the organization, Deputy Mayor Melia Howard, and police commissioners Daryl Woods and Tamara Smith.
