Authorities have identified 36-year-old Day Por Tho of St. Paul as the victim of a fatal crash caused by a driver fleeing a traffic stop. The tragic incident occurred Sunday at the intersection of Larpenteur Avenue and Arcade Street, where Tho’s stationary vehicle was struck.
The Minnesota State Patrol reported that the suspect, a 28-year-old man from Minneapolis, was initially stopped for speeding near Interstate 94 and Marion Street in St. Paul. Instead of complying, the suspect sped away, prompting law enforcement to deploy a state patrol helicopter to track his movements.
The pursuit came to a devastating end when the suspect’s vehicle collided with Tho’s car at the intersection. Tho, who was parked at the time of the crash, was pronounced dead at the scene due to severe injuries. The crash highlights the fatal consequences of reckless driving and evading law enforcement.
After the collision, the suspect fled the scene on foot but was quickly apprehended by a Ramsey County deputy. A taser was used during the arrest to ensure the suspect’s capture. He was subsequently taken into custody and transported to the Ramsey County Jail, where he awaits formal charges.
While authorities have not yet disclosed specific charges against the suspect, the case remains under active investigation. The crash underscores the dangers posed by fleeing drivers, not only to themselves but also to innocent bystanders. Law enforcement continues to stress the importance of obeying traffic laws and cooperating with police to prevent such tragedies.
The death of Day Por Tho has left his family and the St. Paul community in mourning. His loss serves as a stark reminder of the dangers posed by reckless and irresponsible driving. Officials encourage drivers to think about the consequences of their actions and prioritize safety for all road users.
