
A heartbreaking hit-and-run crash in Eunice on Friday, December 13, claimed the life of 25-year-old Darius Edwards, who was riding a motorized scooter. The incident, which occurred just before 5:30 p.m. on South Aymond Street (LA 13), has left the community in shock and prompted a swift investigation that resulted in the arrest of the driver.
Eunice police responded to reports of a collision and discovered Edwards lying unresponsive in the roadway. Bystanders were already performing CPR when officers arrived and took over life-saving measures. Emergency personnel from the Eunice Fire Department and EMS soon arrived, but Edwards was pronounced dead after being transported to a local hospital.
Witnesses recounted that Edwards had been traveling northbound in the center turn lane on his electric scooter when a gray SUV, speeding southbound and passing vehicles in the same turn lane, struck him. According to witnesses, the SUV briefly stopped for about 10 to 15 seconds before fleeing the scene.
