CUTHBERT, Ga. – A tragic shooting took place at Cuthbert Day Park in Randolph County on Sunday, Feb. 23, claiming the life of 16-year-old Tyrae Campbell.
Tyrae, a 9th grader at Pataula Charter Academy, was fatally shot. Tyrae’s mother confirmed the heartbreaking details during an interview, sharing that her son was shot while the gun was being handled by his friend. She added that in addition to Tyrae’s death, another teenager was shot in the face, but survived the ordeal.
WALB has reached out to Cuthbert Police and the GBI to confirm this information but has not yet heard back.
The Cuthbert Police Department, along with the Georgia Bureau of Investigation (GBI), responded to the scene and are currently investigating the incident. The investigation is ongoing, and authorities are working to gather further details about the tragic event.
