The victims have been identified as 36-year-old Brittany Dale Miles and 27-year-old Olivia Marie Alvarez, both of whom were residents of Cedar Rapids. According to the preliminary report, the incident unfolded when Miles’ vehicle was involved in a pursuit and ended up traveling in the wrong direction.
Officials reported that Miles was operating a 2021 Nissan Rogue northbound in the southbound lanes of Highway 218 at the time of the collision. The Nissan collided head-on with a 2017 Ford Explorer driven by Alvarez, who was traveling southbound. The crash was devastating, with both vehicles colliding at high speed.
Miles was pronounced dead at the scene, while Alvarez sustained serious injuries and was transported for life-saving efforts. Despite these efforts, Alvarez later succumbed to her injuries.
