The Corpus Christi Police Department (CCPD) has made a second arrest in connection with the fatal shooting that occurred Sunday night near Seaside Cemetery, claiming the life of 28-year-old Benito Juarez.
On Tuesday, U.S. Marshals and CCPD officers arrested 20-year-old Amber Salazar at the 4800 block of Kendall Drive. Initially taken into custody on an unrelated burglary warrant with a bond set at $30,000, Salazar was later charged with murder following an interview with homicide detectives. Her bond now totals $780,000.
The shooting, which took place around 6:18 p.m. on January 7 in the 200 block of Robert Drive, began as a dispute involving multiple individuals. The argument escalated into gunfire, and the suspects fled the scene in an unidentified vehicle. Juarez was found at the scene receiving first aid from the Corpus Christi Fire Department but succumbed to his injuries at a hospital.
On Monday, CCPD arrested 20-year-old Jesse Diaz in connection with the incident. Diaz was taken into custody at the CCPD Main Station and subsequently booked at the City Detention Center on a murder charge. His bond is set at $750,000.
Preliminary investigations suggest that Juarez and the suspects were known to each other, and the shooting was not a random act of violence. Authorities are continuing their efforts to identify additional suspects and gather more evidence related to the case.
The CCPD urges anyone with information to come forward to aid the investigation. Tips can be reported directly to the department at 361-886-2600 or anonymously through Crime Stoppers at 888-TIPS (8477). The department is committed to holding all responsible parties accountable and ensuring justice for Juarez and his family.
