
An 80-year-old woman from Chilton County, Barbara J. Kornegay, was killed in a devastating head-on collision on Saturday. The crash, which occurred on Alabama 171 around 2:30 p.m., also left two other individuals injured. Alabama State Troopers continue to investigate the fatal incident, which unfolded approximately 16 miles north of Tuscaloosa in Tuscaloosa County.
According to Trooper Cpl. Reginal King, Kornegay was a passenger in a Nissan Rogue traveling along Alabama 171. The vehicle collided head-on with a Ford F-150 driven by 71-year-old James M. Hollingsworth of Lamar Kennedy. Tragically, Barbara Kornegay was pronounced dead at the scene by first responders.
The driver of the Nissan Rogue, 81-year-old Frederick Kornegay, and another passenger, 87-year-old Anne N. Churchwell of Sylacauga, were both injured in the crash. They were transported to DCH Regional Medical Center in Tuscaloosa for medical treatment. While the nature and severity of their injuries have not been disclosed, both individuals remain under medical care.
Investigators are still working to determine the circumstances leading to the collision. It is unclear at this time what factors contributed to the accident or if weather, road conditions, or driver error played a role.
