A devastating act of domestic violence in Kansas City, Missouri, has left three women dead, a dog killed, and one survivor injured. Armando Navarro, 50, has been charged with the shooting deaths of Hailey Hopcus, 24; her mother, Jodie Hopcus, 49; and her grandmother, Sherri Duncan, 73. He also faces charges for the attempted murder of a surviving family member and animal abuse.
The Kansas City Police Department (KCPD) responded to a residence in the 4100 block of NW 65th Street around 12:40 a.m. on February 2, 2025, after a neighbor reported a distressed woman claiming she had been shot at. Inside the home, officers found a harrowing scene: three women fatally shot, a dog killed, and a surviving victim who had escaped to seek help.
According to the survivor, the tragedy began with an argument between Jodie Hopcus and her boyfriend, Armando Navarro. The couple had a history of disputes, and that night, Navarro refused to leave the home. Instead, he retrieved a handgun and opened fire. Jodie was shot in the arm while trying to protect her daughter. Navarro then grabbed a kitchen knife and later a larger firearm, continuing his rampage.
Sherri Duncan, the family matriarch, was found motionless on the floor. The surviving victim narrowly escaped after Navarro fired at her, grazing her hair. She fled to a neighbor’s home, where she heard Navarro calling her name before he fled in a white 2020 Ford Expedition registered to one of the victims.
Navarro was apprehended in Abilene, Kansas, after his son contacted authorities, reporting that Navarro had called him, stating he had “killed them all.” He is currently held in the Dickinson County Jail and faces multiple charges, including first-degree murder, armed criminal action, and animal abuse.
The Missouri Bureau of Investigation (MBI) is assisting with the investigation. Authorities urge anyone with information to contact the KCPD or Crime Stoppers at (816) 474-TIPS. This heartbreaking incident highlights the devastating impact of domestic violence and the urgent need for community support and resources to prevent such tragedies.
