Early Friday morning, a domestic disturbance in North Sacramento County escalated into a devastating tragedy, leaving a one-year-old child dead. Deputies from the Sacramento County Sheriff’s North Patrol Division were dispatched to a residence on the 7500 block of Versailles Way at approximately 4:15 a.m. following a report of family violence.
Upon arrival, deputies encountered a woman outside the home who claimed her husband, identified as 28-year-old Andrey Demskiy, had assaulted both her and her mother. The woman sustained non-life-threatening injuries and was transported to a hospital for treatment.
Demskiy refused to cooperate with law enforcement when they attempted to make contact, barricading himself inside the residence. Deputies learned that a one-year-old child was still inside and possibly injured. Fearing for the child’s safety, officers forcibly entered the home.
Demskiy resisted arrest but was ultimately subdued and taken into custody. During their search of the residence, deputies made a horrifying discovery—the lifeless body of Demskiy’s one-year-old son in a bedroom. Investigators confirmed the child had suffered severe injuries, including decapitation, in what law enforcement has described as an unthinkable act of violence.
Detectives from the Sheriff’s Child Abuse Bureau and Crime Scene Investigators were called to the scene to piece together the events leading up to the crime. Preliminary findings indicate that the incident began as a domestic dispute involving Demskiy, his wife, and his mother-in-law. The two women had fled the home before deputies arrived, leaving the child in the suspect’s custody.
Authorities revealed that Demskiy used a knife to fatally harm his son during the altercation. He has since been booked into the Sacramento County Main Jail, where he remains ineligible for bail. Demskiy is scheduled to appear in court on December 24 to face charges related to the child’s death.
The Sacramento County Sheriff’s Office has urged anyone with additional information about the incident to come forward as the investigation continues.
This tragic and gruesome event has sent shockwaves through the community, highlighting the devastating consequences of domestic violence.
