
AKRON, OH – Authorities are investigating an apparent murder-suicide after a man and woman were found dead inside a Highland Square residence Monday night.
According to the Summit County Medical Examiner’s Office, 44-year-old Jessica Leigh Violand of Elyria died from a gunshot wound to the head.
Investigators determined that she was fatally shot by 26-year-old Elliot Hareem Altesa of Akron, who then turned the gun on himself.
Akron police responded to the residence in the 20 block of South Highland Avenue at approximately 7:30 p.m. after receiving a welfare check request.
A concerned individual had contacted police, reporting that they had been unable to reach Violand for several hours.
Upon arrival, officers entered the apartment and discovered both Violand and Altesa deceased in a bedroom.
They were pronounced dead at the scene.
Authorities have not released details regarding a potential motive for the incident, and the investigation remains ongoing.
