St. Louis police investigating fatal shooting of 9-month-old girl, man as murder-suicide
ST. LOUIS — The St. Louis Metropolitan Police Department announced Thursday they were investigating the deadly shooting of an infant girl and a man Friday in north St. Louis as a murder-suicide.
The shooting happened at about 8 p.m. on the 5000 block of Cates Avenue, near the border of the Academy/Sherman Park and Fountain Park neighborhoods.
The man was pronounced dead at the scene and the 9-month-old girl died after being taken to the hospital.
Micah Lawery on Thursday told that the 9-month-old girl was her daughter Ophelia Lawery-Daniels. Lawery said Lawery-Daniels’ father Zacchaeus Daniels was the person who killed her before killing himself.
Lawery said she left to go to the beauty supply store Friday night. When she came back she found her baby and the baby’s father dead in the living room. She said she never suspected anything and he was never aggressive towards their child.
On the night of the shooting, St. Louis Police Major Christi Marks said no one was in custody and police were not searching for suspects.
The man and the baby both lived at the home where they were found.
